Packing up your house before a move can be an infinitely stressful experience. How did you acquire so many belongings? And, how on earth are you going to get them all into boxes before the big day arrives?
Even if you put the best plans in place, the chances are that you’ll still be manically cramming things into boxes by the time your moving company comes to collect them. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to prevent that, but you can, at least, make sure that you pack your valuables carefully to ensure that they survive the drive.
Most often when we speak about ‘valuables’, it’s natural to think of things like your ornaments, or your kitchen essentials. But, there are also lesser-considered valuables, and your makeup collection is one of them.
After all, when you add it up, the chances are that your makeup has a pretty high collective value. And it’s most definitely susceptible to breakages with heavy handling. So, how exactly do you secure your makeup during a home move?
Step 1: Streamline your collection
Moving house is a great time to streamline your belongings in general, and your makeup and skincare products are no exception. After all, the more makeup you take with you, the harder it’ll be to pack safely. So, take this chance to get rid of that concealer that’s been hiding at the bottom of your makeup bag, or to sort out those endless pots of mascara. Then, you’ll be far better able to fit what you have left into a small, secure space.
Step 2: Bubble wrap your beauties
While you wouldn’t think twice about bubble wrapping breakables like mugs, many of us skip this when it comes to makeup. Yet, items like foundation, eyeliner, and even lip tints often come in glass cases. Admittedly, a high-quality moving company like Allied VanLines will handle all of your items with care regardless, but there’s no telling what will happen in the back of that moving van. To avoid incredibly messy breakages, make sure that you’re bubble wrapping either around individual pots or in the spaces of your makeup storage. That way, your items will all stay whole, happy, and ready for use on your first day in your new house.
Step 3: Separate your liquids
Liquid concealer or foundations are always a risk factor for explosions during transportation, and if that happens, then the rest of your makeup collection will end up in a beige mess by the time you arrive. To avoid that, it’s always worth removing your liquid makeup and placing it in a secure makeup case, away from the rest of your collection. Using a hard case for this purpose makes accidents way less likely but, with the rest of your makeup elsewhere, you’ll only need to replace one or two items if the worst does happen.
Moving makeup isn’t always easy, but it can be done if you follow these tips to keep your best beauty products in top condition no matter where you’re headed.
