Let’s face it; the working class family has a hard time getting out these days. If it’s not an issue of finding the time, affordability always factors in. So if you want to do something with the family other than playing Scrabble or watching TV on a Friday night, stayed tuned.
A family’s budget can easily incorporate entertainment with a little bit of planning. The first thing that you’ll need to do is keep up with the current events in your area. If our family didn’t pick up our town’s weekly publication, we’d have a hard time finding affordable entertainment.
Go to a Concert
Everyone knows that they can go to a concert at their local amphitheater for major concerts–if they want to spend money on a big item ticket. This isn’t always practical for a family of four.
That’s when you check your local weekly publication and start looking for smaller shows with up-and-coming bands. Before we purchased? The Lumineers tickets?last month, we went online to find the promos available. Discount tickets are everywhere online.
We found The Lumineers Tickets on sale for less than half the price of a larger well-known show from a website where fans can resell tickets that they aren’t using. Our family didn’t know a lot about this band when we went, but were happy that we tried something new.
Seasonal Festivals and Fairs
Our family has missed so many fairs and festivals because we just couldn’t afford it. That is until we got a little more savvy about it. Did you know that events like state fairs and carnivals don’t have to put a huge dent in your pocketbook? And festivals often have no charge.
Many state fairs will offer one day in the week where you can buy a wristband and ride all of the rides for one low price. You might have to go on a work or school night, but for one day of fun at the fair it’s worth it.
Don’t forget to pack a lunch and bring plenty of bottled water!
Movies
Going to a movie with a family of four seems like such a novel idea. After all is said and done, you could spend over $100 on tickets, popcorn, dinner, and travel. No wonder so many families stay at home with a large DVD collection!
You don’t have to miss out on the big screen anymore with just a little bit of knowing how to save beforehand. Order your tickets online. Look for promo codes first, of course. Your town may have a discount movie theater that sells cheap tickets before the movie goes to DVD. That’s always a great option, but there are other ways to get around this high priced ticket.
Go to a rush hour or matinee show. Some theaters have a late morning movie showing for families to go to. If that is still out of budget, check the library events. They often have family nights where you can put on some PJs and bring a blanket and watch a movie on the big screen with other families.
Don’t be bound to the idea entertainment on a family budget is impossible. Going out isn’t out of the question anymore.
