We all live a busy lifestyle and often we put our car maintenance on the back burner. While this is completely common for many adults, it?s very bad for the lifespan of your car. There are some car maintenance items that you should check on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis but they are often overlooked. Today I?m sharing the most overlooked car maintenance items that all of us are guilty of neglecting from time to time.
Wheel Alignment
Your car?s wheel alignment can go out of place simply by driving on bumpy roads, going through bad weather conditions or just everyday wear and tear. Having your wheels out of alignment can reduce the lifespan of your tires, suspension components and impact how your car handles. You should have the alignment of your wheels checked once per year.
Timing Belt Replacement
While not every vehicle is equipped with a timing belt, the cars that need to have this checked every 50,000 to 60,000 miles. Cars that do have a timing belt that isn?t checked and replaced when slipping or breaking will ultimately face the untimely death of their car engine. The timing belt needs to be checked on a regular basis to ensure you don?t cause other damage that could completely kill your car.
Air Conditioning Service
Many car owners wait until it?s blistering hot outside to use their car?s air conditioning. It can be a horrible experience to find out that your air conditioning is not working when it?s already brutal outside. You should have your air conditioning serviced annually before hot weather hits to ensure your system is running accurately for that time when the brutally humid temperatures hit your region.
Brake Service
While your brake?s hydraulic system may be closed, the reservoir that holds your brake fluid is not. This means that the reservoir can suck in the air as well as dirt from under the hood and cause your brake fluid to become dirty. Use a dipstick to check your brake fluid often and get it serviced at a car dealership if it appears dark brown.
Fuel System Cleaning
You?d be surprised at how much junk, dirt, and grime gets into your fuel system. As your fuel system builds up these extra elements that aren?t meant to be a part of your fuel system, it will reduce the amount of fuel that can go through the fuel system. Be sure to do a fuel system cleaning twice a year by using a fuel additive found at most automobile shops.
There you have it, the most overlooked car maintenance items that all of us are guilty of overlooking completely or from time to time. Being a car owner means learning how to take care of your car just as well as you do your family, these overlooked items should be added to your list of necessary items to maintain on your car.
