I worry so much about this with my kids just now entering school. My son is 7 and REALLY small for his age so I worry about the other kids picking on him because of his size. I always tell him to never let someone bully you, if this happens you tell a teacher or me when you get home and I will take care of it. Kids need to know they can trust someone to tell them what’s happening. Thanks for sharing these tips!
My oldest started Kinder this year & has experienced bullying from his ‘friend’. In my experiences volunteering for his class- I wonder what is the next step- when children do tell someone & nothing happens?! I’ve watched children come tell the yard duty person and have nothing come of it!
It’s a huge problem. Even though it’s been around for a long time it seems worse now. Bullies bother everyone but do seem to target certain people more. It seems that kids who are less confident are more often victims.
This is a life changing situation for all kids involved and I’m glad it’s getting more attention lately! That being said, bullying is still very prevelant in our schools and communities and it won’t subside until every adult takes a stand. It breaks my heart to read things like the comment Kalani left stating that the adult on Yard Duty did nothing to stop or prevent bullying. We have to make a drastic change for our kids and speak up!
As parents, our main concern is how to protect our children from bullies. The first and foremost thing you can do to help your child deal with bullying at school is to listen to him or her if he or she comes to you with a problem. You can’t help your child to deal with a problem of which you are unaware. And if your child is having problems with school bullies, you listening will mean a lot to him or her.
