The Menil Collection
The Menil Collection is a compilation of art gathered by the de Menil married couple, consisting of several hundred valuable pieces. The main building hosts the most expensive art pieces such as Byzantine and 20-th century art, with more items in the smaller satellite exhibits. There are even 14 examples of Mark Rothko?s amazing artwork. Although you?re not strictly permitted from taking photos, the gallery asks you respect that rule. What?s more, admission is always free, so you never have to pay for the entrance.

Johnson Space Center and Space Houston
Before you ask, yes, this is the very same center where the Apollo 13 took off and was guided from. It?s also home to the most famous expression probably in all of history: ?Houston, we have a problem?). Those seeking to learn more about the center or its history can visit the visitors center before entering the actual Space Center Houston facility. With 183,000 square-foot educational complex currently underway, visitors will get a chance to explore space artifacts and take part in interactive exhibits. Its attractions include but are not limited to: space shows, exhibition of space suits, science, displays of the shuttle launches and even a tour through Mission Control. Museum of Natural Science
Located within the Museum District, near the Houston Zoo, the Natural Science Museum offers lots of entertaining and cool stuff which is educational as well. In addition to dinosaur fossils, rubies, sapphires and rare gems complete with interactive exhibits, this huge Houston museum offers special exhibits such as Cockrell Butterfly Center and even a Planetarium. The admission tickets are relatively inexpensive, but additional exhibitions (the one we just mentioned) cost extra, so keep that in mind. You can always save some money by purchasing a CityPASS. It?s a service offering discount on a couple of town attractions. Admission is free on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Children?s Museum of Houston
This museum is specifically designed for the little ones. There?s a ball and pillow pit for the youngest ones, and more complicated and intriguing stuff like a mini engineering workshop and an EcoStation for slightly bigger kids. It?s not a museum per say, but it is good fun and extremely engaging for kids of all ages.

Holocaust Museum Houston
The Holocaust Museum pays tribute to the fallen in the mass genocide conducted by Germany during the second world-war. Exhibits range from film footage taken during WW2 to actual 1942 railcars used for transporting the victims. It?s a great, educational museum, and one we gladly recommend to anyone.
