Family road trips can be filled with excitement, adventures and amazing journeys. There are so many places that families can visit and some of the destinations may not be too far you?re your home. You will want to plan on what vehicle is best to take on your family road trip, because depending on the size of your family, the amount of stuff you are bringing and your destination, a small car may not be large enough or rugged enough for the trip.
The Northeast is usually the number one destination for the fall, because of the cooler temperatures, the leaves changing colors and the opportunity to pick apples right from the orchards. If your family loves to hike, the Adirondack Mountains in New York State is a perfect place to visit. One of the easiest hikes in the area is Sleeping Beauty Mountain and the panoramic views on top are wonderful to see while eating a picnic lunch. Prospect Mountain is a little more of a challenge to climb, but it is doable for older children. If you have younger children, then it is recommended to make the drive to the top of the mountain. The summit is 2,030 feet and visitors are able to see for 100 miles on a clear day. There are short nature trails that are marked along the top and the entire family will love seeing the remains of the Old Cable Railway.
The Appalachian Trail is another wonderful family road trip destination and the mountains that the trail runs through goes from the Northeast all the way down to the South. The Roan Highlands are located in North Carolina and Tennessee and the Grassy Ridge is one of the best places to see panoramic views from 6,100 feet above sea level. The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald and if anyone in the family loves to stargaze, this is one of the premier spots in the United States. From the top of Brasstown Bald, everyone will be able to see views of four different states.
In the Western United States, the fall season is also harvest season, so it is a wonderful opportunity to show the entire family how a harvest is done. There are many learning experiences available, whether on a farm or in a vineyard. Everyone will be astonished with how much work goes into growing and harvesting all of the food that people eat. The temperatures on the West Coast might not be as cool as on the East Coast, but that?s okay because your family can still partake in some late summer fun at the beach or a local park.
No matter where you choose to go for a fall road trip, there will be plenty of chances for everyone to get lost in a corn maze, take a hayride out to the apple trees in an orchard, pick some apples, eat some pumpkin pie and have lots of fun at numerous autumn festivals. Just don?t forget to drink some apple cider!
