I will always remember one of my teachers from years back. She said that if you want something to happen, picture it in your head every day. It will also help if you can cut out pictures of it from magazines and paste it on a wall that you will see before you go to bed. It?s interesting how memories from the past somehow stay with you but doesn?t really sink into your consciousness until one day, a light bulb switches on.
Now that it’s summer, my boys have really been using their imagination to stay entertained indoors when it’s too hot outside. They?ve been coming up with all types of make believe scenarios and places that they would like to go.? Everything from amusement parks, playgrounds, camping-you name it. ? OK. Fast forward. Last week, while I was sitting at my computer desk which faces out to my backyard, I noticed the boys heading out to the storage shed. The oldest yelled from a distance, ?Mom, can we borrow your Christmas lights?? My first instinct was to ask what for? However, it?s summer and there?s nothing much to do and I wanted to figure out what they?re up to.
I told them to hold up a moment because I keep all the ChristmasLights,ETC neatly packed in the back. So after talking to them a bit more they had plans of making their very own theme park. ? They love theme parks so that didn’t catch me by surprise at all.? This was a project however, that I figured would need some supervison though due to the use of the lights.? Thinking more on it, I actually thought it would be a cool idea. Then I remembered, as a kid, how my brother and I would make our own tents in the middle of my moms living room floor using a few of her ?good sheets?,? so I can definitely appreciate their creativity. I could really see the excitement in their eyes that made their eyes shine more. We are vacationing at Disney World again this year for our family vacation, so it was all the anticipation of the trip that had them all excited.
Knowing how much I knew they enjoyed their last visit ?Who was I to stop them from dreaming? The imaginary theme park is still on hold but we do plan on doing it sometime soon before the big trip. My teacher did say visualization helps, they just were jut aiming for more of a 3D representation of it.? So until we are again at the gates of Disney World again, the kids will be able to enjoy their own version of it!
