If there?s one thing my mother forgot me to teach, it was gardening. I grew up in a house with lots of plants and flowers inside and out. Somehow, I never learned how to take care of plants properly such that I find it challenging to make my house look more beautiful naturally.
However, when I heard about The Gro Project, I thought about giving the gardening experience another try. Thanks to Miracle-Gro, it feels like having my own personal gardening mentor. It gave me tips as a beginner and even provided information for those who are experts in this endeavour. When I started visiting their Facebook page, I have grown much more confident to get my hands dirty, literally. Who wouldn?t be inspired to do this after seeing their amazing photographs? When I started following their Pinterest board, I just couldn?t put all those fun garden projects out of my mind. I suddenly had a new goal and that is to make something so pretty that I can be proud to share my gardening story.
One tip I learned by browsing so many awesome ideas is that you can Plant outside the box – You are not limited to using the same containers. In fact a simple basket could make a nice planting arrangement that may even be a nice gift for that special someone. One suggestion would be to go thrift store hunting for interesting containers. Another option to plant outside the box.
So after some thought, I decided to make a purse planter! I found a nice straw purse at my neighborhood thrift and this is the end result. Now how cute is that?!
I already had most of the items already on hand so I just needed to get started. This really turned into a fun project and it was really really easy to do.
To start this gardening project, here are the items that you will need:
- An old purse or bag
- A small plant(s)
-
Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix
-
Miracle-Gro Shake ?n Feed Plant Food
- Scissors
- Watering can
- A plastic garbage bag
- Glue gun or tape? (optional)*glue gun and tape are optional.? I used these to add the flower to the fun of the purse.
Step 1:Prepare bag by lining it with a garbage bag. Next, use scissors to snip holes in the base for water drainage. The straw purse was perfect for this since it already contained small ventilation holes so I didn’t have to make any.
Step 2: Pour the potting mix inside the purse.
Step 3: Gently put the plant(s) inside the purse.
Step 4: Make sure it gets plenty of sun, water, and plant food.
Step 5: Finish it with some ribbons around the purse or add a flower in case you want to add more color to your straw planter. Let it stand near the entrance of your garden as if it is welcoming guests.
