I am a young mom with two children and this means I am always trying to save money. Some of my favorite ways of saving money are close to my heart and I?m excited to share. It?s important to find ways to save money because you do not want to spend over your monthly amount. The biggest mistake seen among individuals is that they spend above their budgets. That is the worst thing you can do, you should really try to stay within your means. However, it?s no secret that emergencies arise and sometimes you just have to spend money outside of your budget.
Here are some ways I try to save money and get out of debt:
Try not to use credit cards.
It?s true that there are a lot of debt help companiesout there. This helps people who are already in a lot of debt. Instead of accruing more debt, try and pay cash for things. In this economy it may be hard to pay cash with everything. Cut up your credit cards and stick to paying cash only.
Cut corners where you can.
Every household budget has areas that they can cut money.
- Cloth diapers
- Hanging clothes to dry
- Shop at Aldis (cheaper grocery store)
- Eating in?instead of out-
- Ditch the cable
Get rid of debt
?One of my biggest ways to save money is cut out actual debt. I pay off debtas quickly as I can. The longer the debt sits there, then the harder it is to pay off. Start with your smallest debt and pay it off with extra monthly income. As you pay off that debt, you have more money to put towards larger debts.
What ways do you try and save money? Please share them with us!?

Great tips. Eating out is one thing that we have tried to cut out. We can spend $80 in an hour just by eating out. Having family time and cooking at home is cheaper and more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your tips.

We’ve been eating in almost every meal now. I think we eat out an average of 3 meals a week now. Our grocery bill has grown because of it, but we’re eating better food and I think it’s still cheaper than eating out. I used cloth diapers with all my kids at least part time. I breastfed as well, which saves a TON of money. I plan to cut the cable as well. We don’t even watch it anymore and it’s $30 a month!

Yeah, I tend to get lost with the whole credit card thing :( I need to cut them!

These are great tips! We didn’t cut the cable completely, but we turn off the movie channels unless Dexter is in season. LOL

You are right with these tips…we eat out too much! My goal is to eat out less so that we can save money!

WE have been living on a cash budget for awhile. But I recently started using a rewards credit card for purchases but may it off each month. I figure as long as I stick to that I’m actually saving an additional 3% plus money earns a tiny bit of interest staying in savings until the end of the month.

You are right on with your tips! I also coupon for what I can’t buy at Aldi’s. I do not have an added amount for gift giving so I must win or get on rebate everything for my children’s B-days, Christmas, or if I want to go to a baby shower etc I make my own laundry soap and take advantage of the freebies at the drug stores. I do have credit cards but I only use them if I can pay by the due date just to keep them open like last month my hot water tank burst.

Wonderful tips! Credit cards is definitely where tons of people get into trouble. If you don’t pay off the bill in full, that’s where the trouble begins!

Not that I don’t think these are good ideas, because I definitely do, but I think it is kind of strange that these aren’t obvious points to people who need to be on a budget. I mean, of course you have to cut down on eating out- it is way more expensive than eating in and usually more unhealthy! And with so many shows airing their episodes online or through Netflix, you can easily get by watching probably most of what you do now just with a Roku box and an HDMI cord, and you don’t need cable at all! Trust me, I did it and save at least $30 a month.
Did you also consider carpooling as a way to save money? Obviously that would assume the household in question is still using at least one car, but I feel like that is pretty standard for most households.
