Disclosure:?I wrote this post while participating in a campaign for?Mom Central Consulting?on behalf of State Farm and I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Seventh birthdays usually means big parties for children.? When my son turned 7, I had a heart to heart with him and told? him that there was a way he can help others even if he was just 7 years old.? He still had a party, but at such a young age, he understood that it was ok not to have such a grand party.? Instead we shared some of his party funds to a good deed for someone in our community.
As a family, we always seek ways to help other people in our community. I remember volunteering for the Senior citizens group who needed someone to tutor them about basic email and instant messaging. My children did their share by serving snacks. Helping out in the community strengthens the support group that we all need in our day to day lives.
When I heard about the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program, I knew I had to share it with everyone.? State Farm is giving away $25,000 to your own neighborhood initiatives. It brings me great joy that my favorite cause can get so much more than what our family could give today with just a small effort on my part.? There are about 200 initiatives under different categories such as those geared towards community development, education, and safety. We can place our vote here, and the top 40 winners will receive $25,000 each.
Education empowers anyone, young or old, to become greater than what they are now. That is why I am inclined to choose causes that benefit education. There are just so many other initiatives out there and all of them could benefit from your vote.
Here is one of last year?s spectacular initiatives:
Be sure to support the causes that mean the most to you by visiting State Farm?s Facebook Page. You can cast up to 10 votes each day for any combination of causes/initiatives, so let?s start voting for our favorite cause now. Pull up your kids near the computer and let them help you choose the initiatives you will be voting for!
