September is Ovarian Cancer Month and Cocktails With Mom would like to join the nationwide effort to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian Cancer.
I’ll have to admit, I was not aware that September was deemed Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. We are more than halfway through the month and I feel a bit remiss because I for one am just finding out and that I haven’t mentioned it until now. More importantly, I Know Now and feel obligated to spread the word.
Ovarian Cancer has been called the silent killer, since the symptoms of ovarian cancer don’t usually appear until the cancer has progressed into advance stages when it is difficult, if not impossible, to cure.
This disease is one of the most deadly of women’s cancers. Each year, approximately 21,500 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In 2008, approximately 15,500 women will die in the United States from ovarian cancer. Many women don’t seek help until the disease has begun to spread, but if detected at its earliest stage, the five-year survival rate is more than 93%. Recent research suggests that together the four symptoms of: bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly and urinary urgency or frequency may be associated with ovarian cancer. As of today, I plan to take a more active approach to my health and I hope you do the same. We’ve always heard the saying that Knowledge is power so Know the warning signs and know your body. We are our own biggest advocate and the best way to fight ovarian cancer is to fight it early.
Remember that September is National Ovarian Cancer Month. Wear Teal and bring about Awareness. Take Care!
