Labor Day is always a great weekend. You have extra time with family and friends, cook outs and, in my family, baking and decorating cupcakes! My fondest memories are when my younger cousins or brother frost the cupcakes and they look misshapen or all the colors start swirling together because there are so many on them. Did I mention my ?little? brother is 22 years old? Here is my suggestion for the best Labor Day cupcakes ever!
Ingredients:
One box of red velvet cake
Usually the box will call for:
Three eggs
Oil
Water
Two tubs of white icing
Food coloring
Supplies:
Two cupcake pans
Paper cupcake cups
Cookie sheet
A plate for each person who is decorating
Frosting tools
Small bowls
Get a box of red velvet cake and follow preparation and baking directions on the box. Make sure to line the cupcake pans with paper cupcake cups before filling each cup with the mix. After baking, still following the baking directions on the box, let the cupcakes cool for five to ten minutes. While waiting for the cupcakes to cool mix different colors of food coloring into each bowl with some white frosting until all of the white frosting has changed to desired color. After cupcakes are cooled and frosting is mixed to perfect coloring, put cooled cupcakes on a cookie sheet and take to the area where you?re going to decorate the cupcakes along with the frosting and decorating tools to same area. Make sure that everyone decorating the cupcakes has a flat plate under their cupcakes to catch any dripping icing!! Decorate the cupcakes using the decorating tools–I recommend icing syringes and toothpicks (you can use toothpicks for fine detailing and color swirling). ?Once finished decorating, place cupcakes back on cookie sheet, eat them and enjoy!
