Do you really know what kind of dog you have? Sure, you can look at their appearance or mannerisms, but there?s really only one way to know for sure?DNA. Just like I would feed and treat diseases differently on a child that has certain dietary or health conditions, knowing the DNA makeup of your dog provides important nutrition, training, and health information that can help you provide the best lifestyle for your specific pet. And with the millions of mixed-breed dogs in the country, it helps to get right to the source to make sure you have the most accurate information about your dog.
That?s where Mars Veterinary comes in. They?re the industry leader in canine genetic testing and just launched a revolutionary canine DNA test, the Wisdom Panel 3.0. This test provides great information about your dog?s genetic history, but it also screens for Multi-Drug Resistance 1, a harmful genetic mutation found in many herding and mixed-breed dogs that can lead to severe reactions to common drugs, which means it?s incredibly important to know if your dog has the condition.
It all sounds a little daunting, right? Don?t worry?you?re not alone. Over the next six months, Mars Veterinary is hitting the road to teach dog owners about the importance of DNA screening and even provide discounted DNA tests. They will be at the Amazing Pet Expo in Austin on August 1, where they will offer on-site canine DNA swabbing for a special price of $39.99 (compared to the normal $84.99). All it takes is a simple cheek swab and within three weeks you?ll get the official results of the test, as well as an ancestry report with details about your dog?s genetic background.
I can?t wait to learn more about my dog?s history and see what I can do to help him live a longer and healthier life. My dog might not be able to talk, but his DNA sure can and I can?t wait to see what it says! He means just that much to me!

What are you most excited to learn about your dog?

Wow, this sounds fascinating! I’ve always wondered the background of my pup.. we found him on the street as a 3 week baby and we still have no idea what type of dog he could be or any other info about him..

Interesting! I would do this for our dog. She’s a rescue, and they thought she was part King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and part Papillon…but i’d love to know for sure!

Our dog is no longer living. I had adopted our dog from another military family (who had adopted her when she was abandoned). Vets said she was a golden lab. Best dog I ever had but she had some of the same issues golden retrievers do. This would have been great to learn more about her linage.

It would have been interesting back when to know what breeds were included in my mixed breed dogs! But then they didn’t do this when I had dogs unfortunately.

This would be great for my sister who has two dogs. I’ll share the tour info with her!

We are fortunate enough with two of ours to know their history and even got to meet several of their relatives. Two though it would be interesting to know more about them.

I would have loved to do this for my dog that just passed away last year. He was wonderful, and I loved him so much. I rescued him myself on the highway when he was just about 4 months old. He had a lot of features like a blond beagle, but he was taller. I think that he was mixed with American Bloodhound, but every dog person I talked to had a different idea. LOL. It would have been fun to know the truth.

I would love to learn the linage of my dog, and find out what he is made of. He is a basset hound and such a good dog. I want to know more about him.
