I recently had the opportunity to participate in a short interview session with ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) President, Patricia Vance and Video Game Expert from Game Stop Mike Dzura. The main focus of the interview was to talk about the variety of games available this season as well as the ratings system used on games.
Since this was an interview tour I only had less than 10 minutes but felt I asked some pertinent questions that the readers of Cocktails With Mom and What’s That Buzz would be interested in.
The main idea I came away from this with was the ratings system is in place to help you make informed decisions on the games your children play but in addition to the ratings games also have content descriptors which will tell you WHY the game received that rating. ?You can find a list of these content descriptors on ESRB.org and there’s a mobile app you can download to take it with you.?? The important thing to remember is only you can make the decision as to what games are appropriate for your child.
In addition GameStop will be having 2500 games for less than $20 this holiday season.?? You can also take advantage of GameStop’s Buy – Sell Trade Model where you can trade in unused games for store credit towards newer ones.

Great interview. I think having the rating system on games is a must for parents who want to make informed decisions about the type of game to purchase for their kids. We also use Gamestop quite often, will definitely have to take a look at those holiday deals.
As avid gamers – I really appreciate the content descriptors. Of course some games still aren’t appropriate, but it certainly helps narrow it down.
