Great, you?ve been invited to another wedding. By this point, you?re getting pretty sick of finding an outfit, giving the same cards with the same well-wishes, and writing the same check for the same amount every single time. You might be able to get by with these kinds of gifts at weddings for acquaintances and distant relatives, but if a good friend or close relative is about to get married, you probably want to step up your game and give them something really unique.
6 Wedding Gift Ideas You’ve Probably Never Thought Of
Giving a great and really unique wedding present is all about figuring out what is really going to speak to the bride and groom. If they?re people you?ve known and cared about for a long time, just think about some of the best times you?ve had with them, some of their funniest stories, etc. and see how you can find ways to give gifts that recall those things! Here are some ideas to get you brainstorming:
1. A relationship time capsule. Get a nice decorative container, even better if it looks like a treasure chest, and fill it up with items that will remind them of different important events in their relationship. A photo album of memories and pictures detailing their relationship so far. A six pack of the craft beer they tried on their last vacation. Some pressed flowers from the park where they got engaged. An emergency pair of underpants because of that time your friend went on vacation in Spain and forgot to bring any underwear. Write down a ?guide? to the time capsule so they know what everything is or include a map with all of the locations marked.
2. Get some unusual items personalized. Order some bottles of wine with personalization, personalized bath items, personalized car seat covers.
3. Give them something that relates to your business or industry. These kinds of gifts can be quite generous and also very helpful for a couple just getting started in life. If you?re a decorator, do a digital revamp of one of their rooms and offer to cover the revamp or a part of it if they like your idea. If you?re an artist, give them a wedding portrait or an interesting painting that will match their design schemes.
4. Do something really extravagant. Send them on a vacation. Pay for them to go skydiving. Pay for flying lessons ? if you can afford to, of course! You can also use Groupon for these instead of paying full price.
5. Organize a scavenger hunt or some other silly activity. Depending on their personalities, this can be something you can do at the wedding itself, or you can do it before or after. Give them the first hint at their wedding, and try to get really creative with these. Have them cover your local area, some of their favorite spots, and/or some of the locales on their honeymoon. With enough planning, something like this could last weeks or months, but make sure there?s a really good prize at the end!
6. Think of something that?s really important to them that they like to enjoy together: good books, nice whiskeys, good movies, etc. Now come up with an interesting way to give them a gift related to those things. Make a list of their favorite books and buy nice leather-bound versions to start them on their own personal fancy library. Do some research and get them some bottles of some really good whiskeys and put together a gift box with ten or so. Even better if they are international, rare, or otherwise types they wouldn?t normally find. Figure out their favorite movies and contact an artist (look around on Etsy if you can?t find any local artists) and commission a series of their favorite movie posters as reinterpreted by this artist. Take into account their home design scheme so this will go well with their current setup.
Be Creative!
When it comes to giving a great wedding present, the bottom line is that you will need to be creative. Consider their unique personalities and life experiences and try to come up with a gift that will really appeal to them. Go with your gut. If you see something that makes you think of them right away, it?s probably a good place to start!
