5 Breakfast Upgrades Everyone Should Make

Of all the meals that people eat throughout the day, breakfast is the most “samey.” A lot of us just grab whatever we ate the day before, regardless of whether we really like it or not. What matters is that it’s quick!

The trouble with this approach is that we’re setting ourselves up for a fall. Breakfast should be a time of day where we energize our bodies and provide them with everything that they need. But if we are skipping quality food at breakfast, that won’t happen.

So, what breakfast upgrades should you be making?

Swap Out White Bread For Sourdough

One trade is to swap out white bread for sourdough. Unlike the former, the latter is usually unprocessed and offers a lower glycemic response. Furthermore, it undergoes a fermentation process that makes it gut-friendly, providing good probiotics.

Sourdough is great by itself or you can toast it. You can also pair it with healthy spreads, like hummus.

Add Veggies To Your Omelettes

Omelettes are a common breakfast food, but they can be bland if you eat them every day. They can also lack flavor and nutritional completeness (because of the lack of fiber and phytonutrients).

Therefore, combining veggies with eggs is an option. Vegetables offer additional minerals and vitamins without adding calories, fat, sugar, or anything else you might want to keep out of your diet.

Many people add feta and spinach to their omelettes to give them more nutrition and extra flavor. You can also include cherry tomatoes or mushrooms to give it more of an English breakfast feel.

Bake A Sausage Casserole

Instead of just grilling some sausages and putting them on a plate along with other breakfast items, you could experiment with a sausage breakfast casserole. This dish is something you can easily prepare in the morning on weekends or the night before if you want to and keep in the fridge.

Sausage casseroles make you feel like you’re getting a treat in the mornings because of how much flavor they offer. They’re just so incredibly morish, especially when you add cheese.

Add Healthy Items To Your Morning Coffee

Another thing you want to do is add healthier items to your coffee in the morning. Instead of cream and sugar, you could opt for spices like cinnamon or unsweetened almond milk. These are lower in calories and higher in all the things that your body needs, like nutrients.

Go For A Smoothie

You could also opt for a nutrient-dense smoothie in the morning to upgrade your routine. Instead of sticking with the usual approach, you could reduce the amount of fruit, and increase the fiber.

For example, you could use berries instead of bananas if you wanted to cut down on the sugar hit. You could also add a scoop of protein powder or use flaxseed meal. Even half an avocado along with greens, like spinach, can transform your smoothie and turn it into something that keeps you powered all day long.

So, there you have it: some breakfast upgrades that are well worth trying.
