When my son had his first bite of solids as a baby, he was hooked. For a while, all he wanted to do was eat. But flash forward a few years and now we have a picky eater who doesn?t want to touch anything on his plate. I can make accommodations for dinner, but snacks on the go can get a little tricky when I want him to eat without throwing a fit. From the park to a road trip, here are our 10 top kid-friendly snacks that are healthy and delicious:
Trail mix. My son help me put together the perfect mix of whatever we have in the pantry: fish crackers, pretzels, whole grain cereal, raisins, and whatever else we feel like eating.
Kabobs. Slide cubes of cheese, meat, and fruit onto kabob sticks for a snack that is tasty and fun to eat.
Muffins. During the fall and winter, I make a big batch of zucchini or pumpkin muffins and stick them in the freezer until we need a snack.
Smoothies. Another favorite that can be made with whatever is on hand. I mix together yogurt, fruit like peaches and banana, and a little orange juice for extra zip.
Chips and Guacamole. Whip up a quick batch of guac by mixing a smashed avocado with garlic powder and plain Greek yogurt. Use tortilla chips to dip into the mixture.
Parfait. Layer yogurt, fruit, and granola for a tasty treat. These can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
Fruit wraps. Spread peanut butter on a tortilla and add sliced strawberries or bananas, then roll in up.
Waffles. Instead of buying the frozen kind, I make a big batch of whole-wheat waffles and freeze the leftovers so they are easy to grab on a busy day. We top them with peanut butter and fruit for a quick snack on the go.
Popcorn. It?s simple and delicious. We opt for the plain version and add a dash of spices like cinnamon or chili powder to mix things up.
Hummus and veggies. My kids love to dip, so I chop up a selection of veggies like carrots, peppers, and celery and let them go to town.
