Providing healthy lunches for my children can be a challenge and I often resort to the common Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich because it is easy and it makes my life easier. With jellies or jams, it is often hard to find some without high fructose syrup so I often use honey instead of jelly.
This week I had the opportunity to test with my children the Hero Fruit Spreadables. My daughter was thrilled when she saw Dora on the bottle and she was quick to point out that her favorites were the Dora one and the Cars one – the others were no good. When you are 3, the outside of the container is what tells you whether it is edible or not. :-)
The basket we received was full of great treats. Balloons, streamers, special sandwich cutters, all four kind of Hero Fruit Spreadables, and peanut butter.
The best part were some fun recipe cards. We decided to change up lunch a little bit and try the Peanut Butter Jammie Recipe by Target and Hero Fruit Spreadables.
First I took my whole wheat bread and spread it with peanut butter.
We then spread the Cherry Banana (Dora) Fruit Spreadable over the peanut butter and put another piece on top. Just like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. :-) It was a little thinner than other types of jelly or jam that we have used but it was easier to spread because of this.
I then took 1/2 cup of soy and 1 well beaten egg and combined them in a shallow bowl. I then dipped each sandwich into the mixture. The recipe had called for sugar but because we used soy milk (due to lactose allergies) and it tends to be a bit sweeter.
The recipe called for the sandwich being fried in butter. I tried it but preferred spraying my pan with cooking spray and cooking it that way. It is not as fatty and a little healthier.
The outcome – both kids loved it. We are huge fans of Hero Fruit Spreadables now and love that they are 100% natural and have no high fructose corn syrup. These great spreadables can be found at your local SuperTarget and with SuperTarget sampling events slated for Sunday, May 15 you can have the opportunity to take your kids to find out if they like it!
One reader is going to win their own Hero Fruit Spreadables gift pack with includes one of sample of each of the four Fruit Spreadables fruit blends, peanut butter, sandwich cutters in fun shapes and sizes, balloons, streamers, recipes, two reusable lunch bags, and a $5 Target gift card so you can buy fresh bread and tortillas.
