Stress is something that we all face in our lives, but it’s how we deal with it that can make a big difference in how it affects us. Work responsibilities, family obligations, and the hustle and bustle of daily life can all contribute to stress.
Lately, I’ve been more aware of my stress levels and in an attempt to be more mindful of the signals my body is giving me, I’ve come up with a plan to help me keep my calm.
Here are 4 more of my best stress relievers that help me to stay balanced and feel better, no matter what life throws at me:
Exercise has proven to be an amazing stress buster. Even if it’s just a walk around the block, it helps to take that time to do something active. Start a fitness routine that you know you can easily fit into your schedule, even if that means just once or twice a week. Set aside time to turn up the tunes and get your muscles moving. A good workout will get the endorphins flowing, making you feel energized and upbeat.
Between kids, coworkers, family members, and friends, there’s often not much time left just for ourselves. It is so important to take personal time, whether that means getting a massage, going for a haircut, or just sitting alone with a good book for an hour in the backyard. Nothing makes me feel more relaxed than sitting out in the sun with my headphones on, playing my favorite music. The best part is that it’s totally free and effortless! We all need time to clear our minds and be alone with our thoughts, so having personal time is a great way to reduce stress and enjoy a little me time.
In today’s fast paced world, we are all very busy, running around from school to jobs to home. Make a plan with your family to have quality time together at least once a week. Put the phones and the laptops away, and simply enjoy being with each other. You could have a picnic at the park, cozy up on the couch to watch a family movie, or even enjoy preparing a meal together. Just make sure that it is quality time spent with the people who mean the most.
Focus on Positives
When you’re feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, stop for a moment and focus on the positives in your life. Taking time to remember all of the good things that are going on right now will help you to feel more appreciative and less stressed out about the negatives. Try to remember that tough situations are temporary, and the tides will turn soon enough. We all have something that we can be grateful for, every single day.
Stress happens, even when we wouldn’t expect it to. Try to look at it as a reminder to stop and slow down. Focus on the good things in life, and take time to focus on yourself.
