Tips On How To Avoid Texting And Driving

Did you know that texting is the number one reason for accidents while driving? You will be surprised to know that nearly half a million people die from accidents that are related to texting while driving. Even though there is a growing awareness among people about the dangers of texting while driving, it has not managed to dissuade people from indulging in it.

Here are some simple tips on how to avoid texting and driving.

  • Before you start the car think about all the calls and messages that you need to send. Make the calls before you hit the road. Put away your phone after this. You can choose to put it on silent mode or choose to shut it down completely. Inform your loved ones that you will be shutting down your phone while driving. This ensures that they don’t panic when they are unable to reach you.
  • Keep your phone someplace where you cannot see it. Out of sight, out of mind. Place it in the glove compartment or inside the purse. This can prevent silent notifications from distracting you when you are behind the wheels.
  • Choose apps that allow you to block incoming calls and messages while you are driving. Apps that send automatic messages to family, friends or colleagues that you are driving are a good choice.
  • If you absolutely need to make the call or send a message, it is advisable that you stop driving. Start driving only after you have finished making that important call.

Make a commitment to yourself that you will not be driving the car when texting. You need to consider whether the call is worth taking such a big risk. Remember that nothing is more important than your life. Texting while driving can be dangerous to your life and it is best to avoid it completely.
