Handy List to Take to your Mechanic

How much do you know about cars?  I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know much beyond putting the key into the ignition and starting it up.  So when something breaks or need fixing, my husband is the first person I turn to. Thank goodness for him!  But what about those of you who do not have someone to reach out to for questions other than your mechanic?

You know somethings wrong but not sure what. Here is a list of things you may want your mechanic to check for the next time you give him a visit:   I know a lot of you will be hitting the road this summer so make sure your car is summer ready.   Have this list handy and he’ll know exactly what you’d like him to check for.

Check out the entire cooling system: radiator, coolant, belts and hoses, cooling fans, heater core and water pump.

1.   Tires: Be sure to have them check tread depth, uneven wear and tire pressure, You might also want to get a real spare.
2.   The front end:  Have ball joints, tie rod ends and steering components checked.
3.   Check the suspension, including struts and shocks both front and rear.
4.   Change the oil. They will be looking for leaks.
5.   Check the air conditioning system: refrigerant level, compressor clutch and belts.
6.   Check the transmission: Are you close to the recommended service interval? Is the fluid nice and clean? Any leaks?
7.   Check the brakes! It’s always safe to make sure you get to your destination safely.
