As summer approaches, I’m sure many of you are making plans for that fun family road trip! Some of you may have already had it planned out months in advance –while some of you maybe just more recently. But regardless of when you decided to hit the road, I’m sure you’re looking for ways to save at the gas pump.
Since gas prices are gradually creeping up again, these gas saving tips may come in handy and save you some extra gas the next time you go to fill up.
1. Don’t drive if you don’t have to. Yep, it’s true. This one comes first because it’s simply the most obvious; if you don’t drive you’re going to save gas. There are other options you could consider, just keep reading.
2. Look for Discounts
Make sure and watch for any offers from your local gas station. Some gas stations offer discounts to consumers who fill up their car’s tanks on certain days.
3. Credit cards
Did you know that by using your credit card, you could save on gas? Many credit card companies offer a percentage off each fuel transaction. But to fully take advantage of this one, just remember to pay off the bill in full because tacked on interest will eliminate any possible savings.
4. Fuel up with apps
Find cheap gas nearby. Use GasBuddy and Gas Guru. Both are free apps for your smartphone.
5. Maintain Your Vehicle
Keep tires property inflated and service your vehicle regularly
6. Check for cheap gas prices
Check out websites that post the cheapest gas prices in your area.
7. Choose an Alternative Method of Travel
Carpool to work. You can share the expenses and alternate days to drive.
Public transportation – passes are usually available at discounted rates – it’s usually less expensive than driving plus paying for parking
Walk or ride your bike to work
8. Lighten your load
Take out all of the extra junk being lugged around in your car. From what I read, this can reduce fuel efficiency by 2 percent. So if you aren’t heading to your child’s game or practice, just keep their equipment in the house or garage. Every little bit helps.
