Chalk Online Preschool Review

We really embrace technology in this house – in moderation of course – so I was pleased to be able to try out this FREE online preschool curriculum with my son.

The concept of this online preschool curriculum is to provide new lessons every day with hands-on learning in a range of subjects. The lessons are a series of videos, some presented by a teacher, some are animation. There are also printables to go with each day. These free online preschool activities are aimed at 2-5 year olds, and based on the child’s birthdate they will be placed into an appropriate “class”. Up to four children can be added per account, and lessons can be accessed through PC, tablet or android – any time of day or night!

Signing up was quick easy: I just added some basic details and we were ready to go! The daily curriculum always offers lessons on weather, shapes and colours, literacy, maths and science, and art. We started with literacy and my son (2.5yrs) watched a simple video of an abc song which he really liked.

Next I selected Art, and we watched an engaging video about the colour green. I liked how the video demonstrated how green was made, and gave an introduction to primary and secondary colours.

Then he wanted the abc song again! After that we watched the Maths lesson. I was worried it was going to be too tricky for him, but it was a very straightforward explanation of how two buttons plus three buttons gives you five buttons.

And then he, um, wanted the abc song again. After that we watched some other literacy videos about vowels and the letter W. I printed out the “W” printable that went with the activity.

We watched the weather video which was fun but after that F wanted to move on. Still, not bad for our first session!

The next day we watched the abc song again to get us started.

Then we watched the colour/shape videos on red, yellow and rectangle. He particularly liked the red and yellow ones!

Then we watched a science video – making potato chips in the microwave. This wasn’t such a great fit for us because the only bit that children got to do was cut wax paper to put the potato slices onto – and F isn’t able to use scissors just yet. So we went back to the colours! No special letter in the literacy section because it was the weekend – the special letters are only offered midweek. This is so the lessons could be viewed on a Monday-Friday basis to prepare children for “real” school – but we couldn’t wait for Monday to see what our next lessons would be!

This is definitely an amazing learning resource that we at Craftulate will continue to use. The length of the lessons are just right and really engage my son!
