DIY Recycled Plastic Crescent Statement Necklace

Hi, I’m Fran. I write a blog called Teahab all about making jewellery and run a modern DIY jewellery business called Checkmybox with my best friend Hannah. As you can imagine most of our time is spent researching/dreaming up/making jewellery so when Cocktails with Mom asked me to write a DIY guest post using something around the house I was thrilled. After a little experimenting I’ve come up with this necklace that combines both geometric and statement trends that are perfect for a sunny spring evening or summer BBQ. I’ve used a plastic milk carton but there are plenty of other plastic food containers we use daily that would work. Why not experiment with a few?

Cut out 6 semi circles from the straight sides of an empty, clean milk carton.

Mask off sections and use nail varnish to paint them. Leave some sections clear to break up the colour.

Lay out your pieces, playing with the composition until you’re happy. Remember the necklace pieces will hang so lay them in a curved shape.

Punch holes in the top corners and also where the rounded edge meet the corners.

Attach them all together using jump rings. How to Open and Close Jump Rings

Attach the chain to both ends. Split the chain in the middle (the same way as you open jump rings) and attach a clasp: How to Attach Clasps

And there you have it. Thanks for reading.
