Since V Tech products are no stranger in my home, I was excited when I found out I would have the chance to review the new V. Reader.
The V.Reader is the world’s first animated e-reader system designed specifically for kids aged 3 – 7 years old which has been described by some as the Kindle for kids . Needless to say, we were excited to give it a try. When the V.Reader arrived J.S. could not wait for me to get it out of the package. He was filled with anticipation and did not know what was in store for him. After seeing it, my initial thought was that it looked and functioned just like an adult Kindle Reader- but for kids!
Setup up was a breeze and he was able to enjoy it in moments. We were also able to personalize the V.Reader with his name and choose an avatar which he got a kick out of. You can download up to 100 additional stories online; including some free titles. You can also purchase additional cartridges which contain both games and stories. With the V. Reader, your kids can easily follow along as the narrator reads out loud and the words are highlighted. This is a great way for them to follow along and learn word recognition.
Here are some other features of the V.Reader:
Stories come to life through animated books on a 4.3″ color touch screen. Children will enjoy narration, character voices, vivid graphics, sounds and music.
Touch and Read System
Two options of play: Kids can follow along with the story or touch the screen to hear words and play interactive reading games.
Teaches Core Reading Skills
V.Reader helps teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, word building and more!
Enhance vocabulary skills with kid-friendly word definitions.
V.Reader features a USB port and is expandable with SD memory cards (not included). Download themes, avatars, as well as enjoy additional stories.
Track Your Child’s Progress
Connect V.Reader to your computer to monitor your child’s learning, and receive certificates of achievement for each story completed.
Children’s favorite licensed characters come to life and help them learn with initially 11 software options (which will be added to in the near future) that include:
The Little Engine that Could
Dora the Explorer
Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3
Olivia o Disney Fairies
Mr. Men and Little Miss
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
Kid-tough and perfect for kid-sized hands; cover protects the touch screen.
It took J.S. no time to get used to the reader. He was able to read along and play several games which can be played in 3 different levels, Easy, Medium and Hard. He was literally kept entertained for quite a while. I don’t think he even realized he was actually learning since he was having so much fun. With summer now here, this could not have come at a better time. The V. Reader is an excellent way to implement a learning experience along with summer fun.
The best part about it is that you can get it too. The V.Reader became available exclusively at Target as of June 21st and can be purchased for $59.99. Will be available Nationwide in August.
