I reviewed the Everyman headset by FreeTalk which I found out was actually designed BY Skype for use with their services. One thing I was initially impressed with about the product was its minimal packaging. I won’t say that I’m one of the “greenest” people but I do find myself being concerned about the imprint left on our Earth due to wasteful and careless use of unnecessary materials. The headset came without a lot of additional papers and was secured by the small box it was delivered in. There were no plastics used to contain the product for shipping.
The headset itself has a unique, but very convenient design. It uses a USB connection, but allows you to disconnect the speakers in order to connect the headset to any MP3 player or phone that supports a 3.5mm jack! The speakers rotate and fold up into the headset which is great when you’re on the go because it doesn’t take up much space in a suitcase or laptop bag. The design actually seems to protect the headset in the sense that it makes it less likely to break simply because it is so compact. It folds totally flat. (Very nice!) I have broken many headsets along the part leading down to the speakers! Or, maybe that is one of those things I can blame on my kids. :) The microphone is completely flexible. It can be bent, folded, twisted, turned… you can position it any way you like and it swivels 360 degrees so you can have it on the left or right side of your face.

There aren’t any controls on the headset itself which at first I wasn’t very happy about because my last headset had volume controls on the side and I had gotten used to having such easy access. However, as I used the headset more, it seemed to not be such a big issue. I can’t remember having to adjust the volume of the headset when using it, whether I was listening to music or making Skype calls. The speakers have amazing sound quality even at full volume capacity. The set fits tightly and securely over my ears, seeming to hug my head so there is no slipping or sliding at all. Wearing them for long periods is surprisingly comfortable compared to other sets I’ve used. The microphone has excellent noise filtering and transfers voice without any type of strain, even when I used it to record myself singing (which I do loudly, by the way!)

Overall I was very happy with this headset. I would recommend this headset to anyone looking for an affordable, high quality headset/microphone combination with Skype compatibility.
